What changed in 2026
Net metering vs net billing
On 9 February 2026, NEPRA's Prosumer Regulations replaced the 2015 net metering framework for new solar connections.
Exported and imported units cancelled each other out, and surplus was bought back at around Rs 25 to 27 per unit.
Exported units are bought at a lower set rate, while imported units are charged at the full tariff.
Size the system for self-use and add batteries, so fewer units are sold cheaply to the grid.
Figures as reported in February 2026 by Express Tribune and Arab News. Rates are set by NEPRA and may change; we confirm the current rules for your case.

FAQ
Net Metering & Net Billing questions
Need a quick answer? Message an engineer directly.
Ask on WhatsAppWhat documents do I need?
Typically a recent electricity bill, CNIC copy, proof of ownership or tenancy, and the technical details of your solar system. We share the exact checklist for your DISCO on WhatsApp.
How long does approval take in Multan?
It varies with MEPCO's workload. We follow up at every stage and keep you updated, so the file does not sit idle.
What is net billing?
Under the rules notified in February 2026, units you export to the grid are bought at a lower set rate, while units you import are charged at the normal tariff. That is why systems should now be sized for self-use first.
Do the new rules apply to existing users?
Consumers with valid net metering agreements from before the change were reported to keep their existing terms. Rules can change, so we check your case individually.
Should I still connect to the grid?
For most homes, yes. A grid connection lets you draw power at night and export surplus during the day. We will advise whether a hybrid system with batteries suits you better.
